The 2027 ACM SIGIR Conference on Human Information Interaction and Retrieval (CHIIR – pronounced “cheer”) will take place in Berlin, Germany between March 7-11, 2027.
ACM SIGIR CHIIR 2027 invites submissions focused on user-centered approaches to designing and evaluating systems for information access, seeking, retrieval, and use. Contributions may explore improvements to existing systems and interfaces; propose novel theories, models, and systems; or focus on understanding individual and group interactions with information and information systems.
CHIIR is a multi-disciplinary research meeting. In addition to studies of interactive systems, information interaction, and retrieval, we encourage submissions on related topics, including human-human information interaction, novel interaction paradigms, new evaluation methods, and related research in a range of communities such as sociology, education, ethnography, psychology, human-computer interaction, and other relevant disciplines.
CHIIR 2027 will be held in person to enhance community building and foster meaningful discussions.
All deadlines are at 23:59 Anywhere on Earth
CHIIR 2027 will accept submissions of the following types: full papers, including perspectives papers; short papers; demonstration, design, and resource papers; tutorials; workshops; and doctoral consortium papers.
We welcome submissions on a range of topics including but not limited to:
CHIIR 2027 is an in-person conference. We believe that an in-person conference is more beneficial in terms of direct engagement and networking opportunities, more dynamic exchange of research ideas, and welcoming and nurturing newcomers.
All accepted papers (including all tracks) to the main conference and workshops are expected to be presented in-person. We anticipate that at least one author from each accepted paper will attend the conference in person to deliver the paper and address audience questions during the Q&A session. No pre-recorded videos will be accepted.
All ACM publications, including those from ACM-sponsored conferences, are 100% Open Access. Authors have two primary options for publishing Open Access articles with ACM: the ACM Open institutional model or by paying Article Processing Charges (APCs). With ~3,000 institutions already part of ACM Open, the majority of ACM-sponsored conference papers will not require APCs from authors or conferences (currently, around 76%).
Authors from institutions not participating in ACM Open will need to pay an APC to publish their papers, unless they qualify for a financial or discretionary waiver. To find out whether an APC applies to your article, please consult the list of participating institutions in ACM Open and review the APC Waivers and Discounts Policy. Please keep in mind that waivers are rare and are granted based on specific criteria set by ACM.
To support authors and institutions as they continue to adapt to ACM’s Open Access publishing model, the ACM Council has approved subsidized APC rates for calendar year 2027 allowing more time for institutions to join ACM Open. The subsidy will offer:
This represents a 29% discount off current APC list pricing, funded directly by ACM. Authors are encouraged to help advocate for their institutions to join ACM Open during this transition period.
This temporary subsidized pricing will apply to all conferences scheduled for 2027.
